What is Reiki?- Reiki is a healing system with roots in Japan. The term Reiki loosley translated means Universal Life Energy. Some therapeutic techniques that are similar in some ways to Reiki are polarity therapy, healing touch, and therapeuitic touch. You will find that many nurses and massage therapists are using these therapies for medical treatment especially in terminal diagnosis and hospice care. So to define Reiki according to it's translation is to say that Reiki is the energy that surrounds and breathes life into all living things. It is the Universally guided life energy.
Where did Reiki come from?- It was "discovered" by a man named Mikao Usui while on a meditative retreat in the early 1900's. It was passed down from teacher to student and made it's way into the Americas by way of a Reiki student named Hawayo Takata in the late 1930's. Mrs. Takata is the reason that Reiki made it into the main stream in the West and why there are now literally millions of Reiki practitioners world wide.
How do I know Reiki is working?- Most people feel more relaxation in the mind and body during and after a Reiki treatment. It can feel physically warm and also cool to the touch. It can feel as though you have more energy in your body, your mind may become more clear, you may even feel a quivering or vibration in your muscles as the Reiki practitioner works with you. Generally each individual will experience Reiki in exactly the way they are meant to, however; feelings of warmth, comfort, and heavy relaxation is something that many people report after a Reiki session.
What is a Reiki Treatment like?- The fully clothed client will either sit in a chair or lie on a flat surface. The hand positions are usually from head to toe and sometimes the client will be asked to turn over and recieve Reiki to their back side as well. The practitioner will spend between 3-5 minutes and sometimes moretime in each hand position on the body. This modality is very much like laying on of hands and sometimes the hands of the practitioner remain off the body to work in the HEF (human energy field) or Aura.
Does everyone feel Reiki?- No, not always. I have some students that can not feel a thing when they are giving themselves or another person Reiki, yet when they work with other students and their loved ones, it is very evident that something is occuring by the reactions of the "reciever" of the energy. Just because you can not feel it does not mean that nothing is happening. I have even had clients swear that they are not feeling anything and 45-60 minutes into a session they are unable to move their body easily, it's as if they have been in a deep sleep. Everyone is different and sometimes the thoughts and beliefs of an individual can tend to try to mask the effectiveness of a treatment, but in the end most people usually figure out what the block is and they move along nicely on their Reiki healing journey and with their sessions.
Can I use Reiki if I am currently under medical care?- YES you can! Reiki can never cause any harm. It is always appropriate to discuss any new form of healing and healthcare with your doctor. Reiki blends well with any and all modalities. Always be sure to tell your Reiki practitioner about your personal diagnosis and communicate any questions that you may have about the sessions or your health care. Although Reiki works very well with all forms of medical and psychological care, Reiki is NEVER a substitution for medical, pastoral, or psychological care.
Who can do Reiki?-- ANYONE and I mean ANYONE! Reiki is a simple system that anyone can learn to use for themselves or another person, animal, or living thing. There is really no disability other than brain disorders that cause a person not to be able to retain the healing system information and utilize it, that will block a person from practicing this healing art form.
Should I learn Reiki-- YES! Whether you are a healthcare worker, teacher, a cashier, dog walker, a veterinarian, police officer, a mother, a sister, brother, father, aunt, uncle, grandmother or grandfather, the answer is emphatically YES! It is a simple healing system wher eyou can place your hands on yourself or a loved one and they simply feel better. It is so very simple, and in this world of stress and striving to push ourselves into over acheiving and to be on top in everything we do, it can assist you in stress relief and keeping sanity in your busy daily life. If you are working, retired, stressed out, depressed, have been diagnosed with disease, feel fatigued, feel anxiety, in general if you are alive in this day and age, Reiki can benefit all areas of your life. You need no tools, it stays with you all your life, and you don't even need to believe in Reiki for it to work!
"It took me to another level, I feel an opening in my soul, thank you!"
